Who are we

Tora Budo Kai is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registered with the Charities Commission. We have a written constitution which describes how the charity is to be run which is headed up by elected Trustees and supported by a team of Committee Members.

Our aims are to:-

Teach and promote the arts of judo, jujitsu, self-defence and their traditional principles.
To provide a safe environment conducive to the teaching, practice and development of these arts
To develop the social aspects of martial arts by promoting the involvement of parents, families and friends.
To ensure that Tora Budo Kai offers a dynamic, social and progressive environment.

Our vision and values are:

Respect (Rei), It’s earned and offered

Giving and receiving respect creates an environment of trust, safety and wellbeing. This allows us to express ourselves through martial arts with confidence.

Holistic (Zen Jin Teki) , Person first approach

Our approach to Budo is to cover all aspects that make up these wonderful arts. We aim to cater for each person’s unique needs and skills in a natural, fun and engaging way. This will prepare them to be a well-rounded budoka. These aspects are highlighted in our club and association badges, Shin (Mind), Gi (Skill/Technique) and Tai (Body)

Continuous improvement, change for the better (Kaizen)

We look to nurture, praise and encourage those who take it upon themselves to change for the better in their Budo studies and training environment as well as supporting the school to do the same.

We are also heavily involved in raising money for other charitable organisations that have an impact in our local communities.

Through training in martial arts and arranging special courses we have been able to make a donations over the past few years to Mind Bristol, Children’s Hospice South West “Charlton Farm”, Dementia Action Alliance and Bristol Autism Support. We feel this a key point that sets us apart from other groups and gives our members the sense of pride that whilst they are training they are also supporting worthy charities in their community.
